Wisconsinites take advantage of record-high temperatures for February with outdoor activities

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – With unseasonably warm and record-high temperatures hitting Wisconsin, locals are taking advantage of the sunshine while they can.

As temperatures reached as high as 50°, 60°, and 70° on Tuesday, people were outside riding bikes, walking dogs, and having picnics.

Records shattered across northeast Wisconsin as temps soar by previous highs

“We’re probably going to go for a picnic,” exclaimed Laniya Krueger, a Green Bay resident. “It is crazy that we can have a picnic today because, realistically, weren’t we just in the snow? Like in the negatives?”

Krueger was out taking her 3-month-old son out for a stroll and then to the Neville Public Museum to see the Dinosaur exhibit.

“I knew as soon as I dropped my husband off at work that I was going to take him outside because it has been so cold he has barely spent any time out,” said Krueger. “Just look at him smile, he loves it!”

Krystal Shutte was also out for a walk and told Local 5’s Samantha Petters she was so happy to see the forecast for today and planned to spend the entire day outdoors.

“Seeing the sun in a February like this makes you excited for spring and summer,” said Shutte. “I knew it was going to be nice out, and I said if I don’t get outside and take a walk, then I’m going to regret it cause I love being out in the sun.”

She called it an “extended lunch break” and purposefully pushed her work back until the evening so she could throw on a t-shirt and take full advantage of the sunshine.

“I texted my friends and I said ‘You guys, I’m wearing like a t-shirt and almost shorts’,” explained Shutte. “They know that as soon as it hits 50 degrees I’m ready to go outside and have a t-shirt and shorts on so this is nice, I love it, it’s so great!”

Abraham Entranger is another Green Bay local and native who said temperatures as high as 70 are not normal but need to be appreciated, especially in February.

“I love this. I have a moped, and I was just riding it around,” beamed Entranger. “Originally, I had my jacket on, and I was going to go on my moped and just take a ride, and then I turned around, took my jacket off, and I was like, ‘This is awesome,’ and I have just been riding around ever since.”

According to the National Weather Service, several records were broken for Green Bay and other surrounding areas.
